Don't Be Scammed
www.scamalert.biz

In this day and time, it is a good choice for the actors, singers, dancers, models and all talent, to be careful when looking to go to a talent contest, convention, showcase or workshop of any kind.

Make sure you KNOW the company is legit!

Here are some rules:
1) Check out each company with the BBB
2) If it is a film company, call the local film office to check them out
3) Don't pay a company that states that are holding an "Open Casting Call", and you have to pay them to be in a movie! You never pay to be in a movie, YOU GET PAID if you are cast in the movie...EXCEPTION...there are some independent films out there that do not pay, but you do it for the experience and to put on your resume. This is acceptable, IF, they are reputable! Some Casting Calls do request you bring a photo. If you don't have one, and you want them to take one, they will usually charge $1-
$5 for a polaroid or digital photo to go with your paperwork. You should also be given the opportunity to send in a photo *headshot* of yourself along with the paperwork for NO CHARGE!
4) Modeling Conventions: Check each one out. Make sure they are legit. Are you willing to relocate IF you are signed with a NY or LA agent? This may be possible, so be prepared.
5) Try to get a local agent first and get work where you live, within 5-10 hour drive. If you are willing to travel, let the agent know. Sometimes you have to be there on a moment's notice!
6) Talent Searches: Check the company out. How long have they been in business? Are there success stores?
7) Talent Competitions: Check the company out. How long have they been in business? Is there a website? Are there success stories? Is there anyone that is doing something from the competition, like modeling, singing or acting in a movie from being in the competition? Look to pay to enter most talent competitions. Is there a telephone number in which you can call and ask questions? Sometimes you win cash and prizes at these competitions, so paying a price to enter could be feasible.
8) Talent Conventions: How long have they been in business? Are there success stories? Do they have a website? DO they post who the agents, casting directors or producers are that are attending? Are they reputable? Are they recognizable?

ALWAYS do your homework BEFORE you sign anything! Make sure that you are not hassled or pressured into making a decision. You should be given time to make a decision to do anything. You CAN always say NO! Keep that option open!

THE BEST WAY TO SPOT A SCAM:

If people are deceived, misled, and cheated in a financial scheme, either by what is said or by what is not said, by what is done or not done, it is a scam.
Hope this helps you out!
